Drenica – The Serb military powers started the most severe offensive against several villages in the community Srbica in the Drenica region. With the help of heavy artillery, the Serbs are trying to come into the Albanian villages, and the residents along with the Liberation Army are trying to resist.

Prizren – During the last Serbian offensives around 60 thousand people were to leave their homes while more than 270 villages were grenated, the Albanian sources inform. UNHCR and other humanitarian organisations sent humanitarian assistance for 35 thousand refugees stationed in Prizren.

London – Sally Baker, British humanitarian activist, who was arrested on the FRY boarder on 16 July in attempt to smuggle a group of Kosovo refugees to Albania, has been released from the prison. Baker told the journalists that she was forced to sit on a chair in the prison for seven days, while the members of the Serb guard were all the time hitting on the table next to her so she could not fall asleep. They hindered her from taking water or any other liquid. Sally Baker told BBC that more than 100 policemen passed by her and each of them spat on her. I have never noticed such hate in anybody, she said.

Sarajevo – On the occasion of the Macedonian National Holiday, Alija Izetbegovic, BiH Presidency Chairman expressed his hope that BiH and Macedonia will in future be a base for complete and long lasting stability on the Balkans.

Mostar – Dr. Christian Schwarz Schilling visited Mostar and Stolac today. Neither Stolac Mayor Pero Pazin nor the HDZ Municipal President were there to meet the International Mediator for BiH. Sch. Schilling reiterated that the solution for the Stolac problems must be found, although its local authority representative has neither a wish to support nor to co-operate on the refugee return issue. He gives an impression of a man who has no capacity to resolve anything that has been agreed, Sch. Schilling said and went on. If HDZ does not change very soon, I’ll announce publicly that the HDZ does not work in the interest of the Croatian people in BiH. I hope though that people in BiH, including the Croats, will comprehend who is working in their interest and who is not, Schilling concluded.

Zagreb – The US Embassy in Croatia informed today that an American destroyer has arrived in the harbour Split. At the request of the Croatian Government, the American aeroplane carrier Eisenhower and a cruise missiles ship will arrive end August and for six months cruise the Mediterranean.

Doboj – RS President Milorad Dodik, confirmed that the decision of appointing the Administrator for a part of the local Radio and TV stations in this entity has the aim to normalise the situation in these media, FONET informs. At the Press Conference in Doboj, Dodik estimated as illegal the speculations of those who comment this Government’s decision in other way. According to him, the political situation in RS is good and the international status of Srpska has never been better.
