HJPCs Will Make Final Decision on Number of Judges and Prosecutors

In the light of recent speculations in the press, it is essential to emphasise that the decision on final numbers of judges and prosecutors in the restructured court system in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be made by the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils (HJPCs) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska and Federation BiH.

The IJC has in a restructuring report proposed reductions in the overall number of judges. It is the HJPCs which have to make the final decisions and are working on this issue,” said Judge Jan Erik Oja, President of the HJPCs. “ Nothing has been decided yet. It is an important and complex matter and will need careful deliberation. It is still too early to discuss final numbers and useless to speculate about the outcome of our work.
