Meeting of the High Representative and the SDS leadership

The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, met with President- and Vice-President-elect of the Republika Srpska, Messrs. Mirko Sarovic and Dragan Cavic, and SDS President of the Presidency, Mr. Dragan Kalinic, in Sarajevo on 12 December 2000.

They agreed to issue the following statement:

The SDS leaders, in the name of their party, fully endorse the Dayton Peace Accords, all previous PIC Declarations in particular the Brussels PIC Document and the Communiqué of the Steering Board meeting at the level of Political Directors in Brussels on 7 December 2000 and the High Representative takes notice of this commitment. The SDS will constructively participate in the promotion of enduring peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The SDS, its members as well as its representatives at all levels will immediately and in all respects cooperate with the international community. The leaders declare their commitment to work on economic reform, including the fight against corruption; the acceleration of return of refugees and DP’s to the RS and the Federation, including full implementation of property rights; on finding expeditiously a constitutional solution within the RSNA regarding the BiH Constitutional Court decision on the constituent peoples; on reconstruction of all damaged and destroyed religious and cultural monuments, as well as the implementation of the decisions of the Human Rights Chamber; on establishing and consolidating self-sustaining common State institutions and regulatory agencies; as well as to co-operate with the Hague Tribunal, also through the RS institutions, in accordance with the obligations of the Dayton Peace Agreement. The attendees also agreed that the RS and BiH authorities should function efficiently to meet their obligations towards the electorate.
