High Representative orders travel documents of Karadzic support network members seized

High Representative, Miroslav Lajčák, today ordered that Bosnia and Herzegovina travel documents in the possession of Ljiljana Zelen-Karadzic, Aleksandar Karadzic, Sonja Karadzic-Jovicevic, and Branislav Jovicevic be seized.  He issued the order at the request of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and in close cooperation with relevant local law enforcement agencies.  These four persons are in one way or another the subject of orders by the Court of BiH, a decision by the BiH Council of Ministers, international financial and travel sanctions, and ongoing criminal investigations for their role in the support network of Radovan Karadzic. Today’s actions build upon these measures.

Since his first day as High Representative, Miroslav Lajčák has put full cooperation with the ICTY—a Dayton requirement and Peace Implementation Council Steering Board priority—at the top of his agenda.  “The international community has made it clear that it expects the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina to cooperate fully with the ICTY, playing a proactive role in apprehending all remaining indictees and dismantling their support networks. My decision complements measures undertaken by the local authorities and by other international actors,” said Lajčák.
