The High Representative to BiH, Paddy Ashdown will deliver a speech in Geneva tomorrow (Friday) morning at a conference on the future of BiH entitled “Ten years of Dayton and Beyond” marking the 10th anniversary of Dayton.

The news of the detention of individuals by the BiH Authorities is serious, but it is evidence that BiH is a capable partner in the international fight against terrorism. The proper authorities in BiH are investigating this matter, and are co-ordinating with representatives of the International security forces present in BiH.

"Today delegates at the BiH House of Peoples voted in favour of the EC approved agreement on Police Reform, and by doing so opened to door to Europe," the High Representative said today. "Aside from the passage of the Public Broadcasting reform, this was the last major roadblock preventing BiH from starting Stabilisation and Association talks."

The High Representative, Paddy Ashdown, has appointed Peter Kidd and Philip King Alcock as International Prosecutors in the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The appointment is for a two-year term and is effective immediately.

The High Representative today announced a Decision to suspend the decision renaming Sarajevo International Airport. The vote in the RSNA this evening is good news. There must be no confusion about what this means. The words speak for themselves. Within five years BiH will have a single integrated police service at the state level, and local police areas which will cross the IEBL in the limited areas where it is technically necessary.
