Valentin Inzko Decorated

Valentin Inzko was today awarded the Grand Decoration of Honour in Silver for Service to the Republic of Austria.

The award was made as recognition of Inzko’s work as President of the Council of the Carinthian Slovenes, and in particular for his efforts to strengthen the Slovenian language in the south of Austria, where a Slovene minority lives alongside the German speaking majority.

The compromise, achieved in April 2011, has inter alia seen 164 bi-lingual road signs installed in villages and municipalities across Carinthia.

The award was presented today in the Office Austria’s Federal Chancellor, Werner Faymann.
