As a result of the May 6, 2008, Supervisory Order, representatives of national minorities may stand for election to two new seats in the District Assembly. Supervisor Gregorian wants to ensure that representatives of national minorities have a voice in the District legislature and strongly encourages qualified and interested candidates to stand for election.
The May 6, 2008 Supervisory Order gives a chance to national minorities to organize themselves, and to nominate their representatives to run for the two new Assembly seats. Time is short, however. The election process started on May 8, 2008, and the deadline for submittal of application for verification of political subjects expires on May 23, 2008, at 17:00, while the deadline for submittal of candidate lists and candidate lists for election of representatives of national minorities expires on July 7, 2008, at 17:00.
