Referendum, a fairy tale that cannot be realised

This country has no room or time for remarks that question the existence of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its entities, the High Representative and EU Special Representative said in a video answer on the website www.reci.ba

“There is no question that under Dayton Republika Srpska is a constitutionally recognised category. At the same time, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia-Herzegovina must be respected by all, including the RS. Remarks that question the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina deliberately generate suspicion and uncertainty. Remarks that question the existence of the entities have the same effect”, Lajčák said.

The High Representative and EU Special Representative stressed that “by showing respect for the RS, whilst underlining that the RS is a part of BiH, the referendum story will be seen for what it is: a fairy tale that no one can realise and no one should fear.”

Questioned about the recent resolution of the National Assembly of Republika Srpka, Lajčák said that it was naïve to think that the RS could secede against the will of Bosniaks, Croats and the International Community.

“I can use my Bonn powers to change many things or remove someone, but we have to change people’s opinions in a different way. This cannot be done through the Bonn powers. Let us all work on building tolerance, respect for each other and mutual understanding”, Lajčák said in his answer.
