Re-structuring of Railway Sector in BiH

Negotiations on the re-structuring of the railway sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina continue. During the two day seminar held last week in Paris, at the seat of the International Union of Railways, important progress was made. It is likely that the final organisation of the sector will be finalised and made public before the deadline of 30 March 1998, in line with the Peace Implementation Conference objective agreed in Bonn.

During a meeting held today in the Office of the High Representative, railways experts of the two Entities confirmed that there are no further political difficulties in resuming traffic. Despite some remaining technical issues, trains can run in the major part of the network, in both Entities.

The OHR invites businesses with freight rail transport needs to contact railway operators in both Entities.

Railway freight traffic with Croatia and FRY is expected to resume at the beginning of April.
