OHR’s Statement at the International Agency’s Joint Press Conference

HR & NATO Joint Presser

The High Representative will meet the new NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, at 14.40 this afternoon. This will be Mr de Hoop Scheffer’s first visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina as Secretary General. There will be a photocall at the start of the meeting. SFOR will give more details of Mr. de Hoop Scheffer’s visit.

Since the last visit of NATO’s top official, this country has moved a step closer to membership of Partnership for Peace by adopting almost all of the necessary defense legislation package. Now we need to see the appointment of a BiH Defence Minister and Deputy Defence Ministers, by the beginning of February, and for BiH to meet the other requirements of PfP before the NATO Istanbul Summit.
