President Plavsic received Special US Envoy for the Balkans, Robert Gelbard, in Banja Luka today. The meeting focused on implementation of the Dayton Agreement and Gelbard emphasised “support of the US Government to the reform course of the RS Government”. However, the press conference held after the meeting centered on ways of resolving the Kosovo crisis. Gelbard stated that it is still possible to resolve the crisis in a diplomatic way.

Mrs. Jelisaveta Karadjordjevic, member of the Serb royal dynasty, was received today by President Plavsic, for a short friendly visit. She accepted the RS citizenship offered by the President.

After a visit to Japan, PM Dodik informed the press about concrete projects of the Japanese Government for assistance to the RS. Dodik stated that they agreed on the so called “arrangement yen credit” amounting to $60 million, that would be realised in the second half of the current year. The RS Government plans to use the credit for the rehabilitation of the steam power plants in Gacko and Trebinje. A donation amounting to $20 million is confirmed for two hospitals and 13 health centres. The Government of Japan also approved $500,000 for reconstruction of schools, a new programme for agriculture, amounting to $1.5 million, and $5 million for the water industry, i.e. reconstruction of the water supply system. A donation amounting to $1 million is approved for equipping of RS Government premises and its functioning.

PM Dodik also received Robert Gelbard, Special US Envoy for Balkans, in Banja Luka today. They discussed problems in the privatisation process and the issue of police reconstruction.

BiH and Polish Foreign Ministers, Jadranko Prlic and Bronislav Geremek (also Chairman of the OSCE), signed an agreement in Sarajevo today on a donation of $3 million for the renewal and reconstruction of BiH. However, their meeting centred on the forthcoming September elections. (Momcilo Krajisnik, Member of the BiH Presidency, objected to Geremek about irregularities in voters’ registration and implementation of electoral results in the last elections. Krajisnik stated that, according to the Dayton Accord, there is no longer the need for such an active role of the OSCE in the forthcoming elections which existed in earlier ones.)

Member of the BiH Presidency, Momcilo Krajisnik, today met with Special UN Envoy for Human Rights, Jiri Dienstbier. They discussed the issue of Serbs from the RS imprisoned in the BiH Federation and Serbs imprisoned in Croatia.
