The former Vukovar Mayor, Slavko Dokmanovic, 48 years old, committed suicide on June 29th, 1998 in his prison cell at the Hague Tribunal. He was indicted for inhumanity and violation of the Geneva Convention, arrested and taken to the Hague on June 27th last year. Mr. Dokmanovic’s trial finished on Thursday and sentence was soon to be passed.

The office of the UK Embassy was opened today in Banja Luka: RS President Biljana Plavsic, the RS Deputy President Dragoljub Mirjanic and other RS officials, together with UK diplomats, including the UK Ambassador to BiH Charles Crawford, attended the opening ceremony. “This is a sign of our support to the RS President and the RS Prime Minister, to what they have done so far and to what they will do,” stated UK Ambassador to BiH Charles Crawford.

The member of the BiH Presidency from the RS, Momcilo Krajisnik, spoke today in Pale with the Senior Deputy to the Head of the OSCE mission to BiH, Norbert Klingler, about the forthcoming elections in September. Krajisnik expressed his belief that cooperation between the RS and OSCE would be more successful regardless of the staff changes in the OSCE.

An RS Government delegation led by the RS Government Deputy President and the Minister for veterans’ issues and victims of war and work, Tihomir Gligoric, returned today from a 7-day official visit to Rome. This visit realised a social tripartite dialogue between the Government, employers and the Trade Uniont. The aim of the visit was the exchange of experience between Italian and our experts in the field of protection of the rights of employees.

The spokesperson of the RS Ministry of Interior, Dusko Tuzlancic, denied today that the RS Minister of Interior, Milorad Stankovic, had resigned. Tuzlancic said that the RS Ministry of Interior, led by the Minister Stankovic, had achieved two out of four key tasks set by the RS Government : the unity of the RS and the fight against crime.

Aleksa Buha, the former President of the SDS Presidency, stated for TANJUG that he would not establish a new party following his resignation from all functions in the SDS. “I am the President of the SDS Club of Representatives in the RS NA and that is what I am going to be at the new elections in September,” Buha added.

On Sunday 80 Serb refugees, temporarily living in the RS, visited their homes in the eastern part of Mostar. Around 15 of them remained there and started cleaning their houses for the return.

A seminar concerning the promotion of democracy is to take place in Sarajevo on July 2/3. It will be attended by experts, scientists, politicians and media experts from both the RS and BiH Federation. The seminar is to be opened by NATO Secretary-General, Javier Solana, and the BiH Foreign Minister, Jadranko Prlic.
