Dietmar Schlee, the Special German Envoy for the return of refugees, spoke today in Banja Luka to the RS President, Biljana Plavsic, about the return of refugees and reconstruction of the RS. Prior to this meeting Mr. Schlee visited the village of Micije near Gradiska, to which a group of Croats currently living in Germany is supposed to return. He stressed that the Serbs from Croatia should have the opportunity to return and thus underlined the necessity of the opening of the Croat Consulate in Banja Luka.

Momcilo Krajisnik, the member in the BiH Presidency from the RS, received today in Pale the former UK Ambassador to BiH, Charles Crawford in his farewell visit. Mr. Krajisnik thanked Mr. Crawford and the UK for contributing to peace implementation in the region.

Two more VRS soldiers were identified in Banja Luka today. These are Zeljko Solak and Dragan Latinovic who were exhumed from the Caprazlije grave site near Livno. The identification of five more people is to be continued tomorrow.

The RS Defence Minister, Milovan Stankovic, stated in Doboj that there were no reasons for him to resign and that all stories about his resignation were pure misinformation from those who acted dishonestly in the pre-electoral campaign.

A meeting of representatives of the Ministries of Trade and Finance of the RS and BiH Federation, attended by OHR representatives, took place in Banja Luka today. The RS Minister of Finance, Novak Kondic, stated after the meeting: “I want to emphasise that, as reasonable people from both Entities, we want to harmonize the rates and taxes in both Entities in order to prevent disloyal competition and in order to protect the budgets of both Entities. I also underline that the fiscal system is the exclusive competence of the Entities not BiH, and for those reasons the RS passes its own laws in that field, which the RS will continue to do in the future. But at the same time the RS is going to take into account the taxation policy of the Federation….” `

A press conference of the Socialist Party of RS held in Banja Luka today: The Deputy President of SP of RS, Dragutin Ilic, confirmed the lists of candidates for the September elections. The SP of RS supports Biljana Plavsic to run for the RS President, Zivko Radisic for the member of the BiH Presidency, Svetozar Mihajlovic for the RS Deputy President, Branko Dokic for the House of Representatives of the BiH Presidency and Dragutin Ilic for the RS Parliament.

The International Supervisor for Brcko, Robert Farrand, warned returnees to this town that return must be done in line with agreed procedures. The reason for him issuing this warning was information that Muslims, the pre-war inhabitants of Brcko, were coming en masse to the houses used by expelled Serbs.
