News Summary

Bicakcic comments on dispute with Dnevni Avaz

BiH Federation Prime Minister Edhem Bicakcic admitted that the dispute between his party, the SDA, and Editorial Management of the Sarajevo daily Dnevni Avaz began after the SDA post-election analysis of its (poor) local election results. The Dnevni Avaz has been accused that it, with its writing (reporting), contributed to the poor results suffered by the SDA in last April’s local election. Bicakcic said that Dnevni Avaz, with its reporting, attempted to create an internal dispute between the Bosniak people. Bicakcic condemns Dnevni Avaz, saying that it has become “tabloid media” through the leadership of Dnevni Avaz Editor-in-Chief Mensur Osmanovic. Osmanovic is one of the former editors of the Sarajevo weekly tabloid AS. Bicakcic said that the SDA invested significant resources into the founding capital of this daily newspaper. Bicakcic, however, refused to give an exact figure amount on how much was invested in the established of this Sarajevo daily. Tax inspectors conducted two audits of Dnevni Avaz that provoked strong protest from the independent media, opposition parties and international representatives in BiH.
