News Summary

Zenica Municipality looks at trust misplaced in local officials

“The latest episode in the various political events in Zenica Municipality is an action of establishing trust in local SDA candidates. The whole thing began with a complaint from Zenica journalists over the Municipal Head intervening in editorial policy, continued with the naming of highest officials by the Zenica Patriotic League club, and followed by reactions from the OHR Media Department and High Representative Carlos Westendorp himself. Events evolved into the questioning of trust given to representatives, which caused dismissals. Head of Zenica Municipality Ferid Alic and Canton President Bedrudin Salcinovic are some of the people the Patriotic League pointed to. Not long after, the SDA Club of Counselors presented an incentive for the Zenica Municipal Council to analyze the trust given to the head of the municipality. This proposal was rejected because of HDZ objections, explaining how a month ago a report was accepted analyzing the work of Municipal executive organs, and was evaluated positively. The SDA proposal was dropped. The SDA then held a meeting of the Municipal Assembly, attended by party members at state level, evaluating confidence in all members, including President Ibrahim Puric. All were supported but Puric resigned, citing private reasons. Nobody is willing to comment, so the question remains, if all this has confirmed conflicting opinions within the SDA, whether the hunt on the municipal Head is over and does the claim that Zenica journalists are politically manipulated stand?”
