OHR BiH TV News Summary, 24 May 1998

Sarajevo – BiH Capital became a seat of the World Congress of the Humanists Unity. This decision was made at the two day Congress held in Sarajevo. The Congress awarded Alija Izetbegovic, BiH Presidency Chairman with a Charter of Peace, Humanism and Love. It was handed out by Ivan Supek, the life Honorary Chairman of the International Humanists Unity. Izetbegovic received also a Special Medallion as a sign of thankfulness for all what he did for a peace and is doing now for promotion of tolerance. Supek, Member of the Croatian Academy of Science and Art revoked in his speech the agony which Sarajevo endured during the war. At the end of two day’s work, the Congress accepted its Declaration reminding the world of its responsibilities, among which are: Mine prohibition, acceleration of reconstruction, implementation of the positive human rights including the right to work, judiciary guaranteed by laws, refugee return without discrimination, continuing to seek missing persons, promote a dialogue among the peoples of the different cultural and religious groups, free ahistory, etc.

Prof. Ivan Supek assessed in his interesting speech yesterday that politic will in 21st century completely lose its influence on the development of the world. Politic will no more represent an ideology which leads a world. It will be a science, culture and art, he said in a speech named An Intellectual and Politic,s held to the members of the Circle 99 in Sarajevo.

The International Peace League awarded Elisabeth Rehn, a Special UN Secretary General Envoy with the Peace Charter in Sarajevo today.

Ahmici – 50 Bosniak families entered the village Ahmici today for the first time after the war and stayed there. It is the village in which 112 Bosniaks were killed on 16 April 1993, a village whose residents have been dispersed in 8 different countries and 15 municipalities in Federation. We do not forget, but for a benefit of our BiH, we shall forgive as much as we can, Ejup Ganic told in his speech to the returnees during his today’s visit to Ahmici.

Donji Rakovac – Around 40 residents of Serb nationality visited Donji Rakovac in the municipality Maglaj, today. 25 houses have been reconstructed here for the returnees.

Celic – Federal Government Delegation headed by Edhem Bicakcic paid a visit to Sapna, Teocak and Celic, yesterday. Refugees from Koraj, Gajevi and Brcko are living in these municipalities. According to already achieved agreements with the Serb authorities, they will be soon going to their homes.

Sipovo – The main problem in the realisation of the Annex 7 in this open city on the edge of RS, is lack of the financial means. Only 20 Bosniak families returned to Sipovo.

Sanski Most – Worries of the Prijedor citizens relating to the inter entity boundaries, never stops. They demand an urgent action of the IBEL Commission and CoM on the precise exchange of the territories between this and Kljuc municipality in RS.

Washington – A correspondent’s report from Washington informs of appearance of a newest book by Richard Holbrook named End the War. This is a book which will leave t very few people indifferent and which will keep many awake until the morning, on the Balkans. Weather you agree with Holbrook on Bosnia or not, a reading of the book is a must, Henry Kissinger, commented the book. End the War describes the war in BiH and implies that there was no wish either in the US Administration nor in Pentagon or Europe to seriously help BiH.

Sarajevo – Follows a lengthy part on the reconstruction of BiH TV which included journalists briefing in OHR. Rida Attarashany and Mirza Hajric were alternately shown giving information without commentary, on how the TV network should look in BiH.
