News Summary

BiH Presidency member Alija Izetbegovic comments on new measures of Peace Implementation Council

Alija Izetbegovic, in his address to the PIC Conference in Brussels, said that the establishment of institutions for Euro-Atlantic integration should be a priority along with refugee return, economy reform and the better functioning of BiH common institutions. “We are responsible for ensuring the implementation of property laws, the decisions of the BiH House of Human Rights and other competent institutions. We accept the principle of aid conditioned on refugee return as long as High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch will accept the obligation of exercising his mandate with an even-handed standard throughout BiH (…) The Madrid Declaration ordered the establishment of institutions without delay and extinguishing the existing parallel institutions (…) Significant steps have been made to establish the BiH State Border Service, the institution of the State Budget Auditor, the IMC and several other necessary institutions.” Izetbegovic reminded of Petritsch’s decision of 30 June 1999 establishing the BiH Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and appointing 6 of 9 members on the PBS Establishing Board. He concluded that the deadline for the establishment of BiH PBS Radio and Television was 1 January 2000, and that its establishment is not even close to happening yet.
