News Summary

BiH Constitutional Court fails to reach conclusion on balance between entity constitutions and BiH Constitution

The BiH Constitutional Court failed to reach any conclusion on requests for the revision of the BiH entity constitutions in order to balance them with the BiH Constitution. At a session in Sarajevo on Saturday, BiH Constitutional Court justices decided to postpone a discussion over six disputable articles, including the constitutionality of all three peoples throughout BiH, until the RS National Assembly elects a new Constitutional Court justice to replace the one that resigned at its last session. Constitutional Court justices from 15 European countries expressed their support to the efforts of the BiH Constitutional Court by participating in the International Conference on Courts in Sarajevo this weekend. BiH Democratic Alternative hosts roundtable on Dayton Agreement

“The main task of the Dayton Agreement was to end the armed conflict, which largely determined the content of the agreement as well as the quality of its implementation” stated International Crisis Group expert Zoran Pajic at a roundtable held by the BiH Democratic Alternative in Sarajevo Saturday. “Organizing BiH as a country with two entities was the best solution for extremists on all sides, who kept insisting on the theory of two independent states.” The hosts of the roundtable, the BiH Helsinki Committee, the Center for Rights of Minorities and Circle 99, asserted that it was essential that all alternative organizations in BiH raise their voice about implementation of the Dayton Agreement.
