Sarajevo

Four years ago, on November 21st, the Dayton Peace Agreement for Bosnia and Herzegovina was signed in Dayton, Ohio. This was the most important date in the recent history of the country. Analysts assessed that the only real achievement of the agreement was ending of the war in the area. Experts of the International Crisis Group (ICG) concluded that effects of the three and a half year war were still present in BiH. Over one million of BiH citizens still have not returned to their pre-war homes, individuals indicted for war crimes were still far away from the Hague, economy has collapsed while crime and corruption have spread. This was followed by a report on Sarajevo Serbs who left the town upon the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement. During the war, more than 300,000 Serbs had left Sarajevo. Approximately 110,000 Serbs left parts of Sarajevo which had been integrated in the BiH Federation in 1995. Four years after, many of them want to return to their homes. Association for return “Return to Sarajevo” has been in favour for return not only to the BiH Federation but to all parts of the RS as well. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Anes Alic.

Bihac

A piece on workers who currently do not have a job. New legal solutions have been made recently according to which companies have to give severance pay. However, companies do not have funds for that. On the other hand, the International Community reacted saying this would slow down process of privatisation. In the Una-Sana Canton alone, 6,500 workers do not have jobs and were sent to “wait” at their homes. The report was produced by OBN reporter from the area, Azra Bajric.

Zagreb

Croatian parliamentary parties met today in order to avoid blockade of the state institutions’ work, caused by the illness of the Croatian President, Franjo Tudjman. The deadline under which the President was supposed to officially determine the date for the next elections, previously announced for December 22nd, expired at midnight. According to yesterday’s statement of the medical team, the health of the Croatian President has been improving gradually. According to the Croatian law, the elections should be postponed. According to the Croatian television report, the deadline for the elections was January 27th 2000. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Mladen Maric.

World

This was followed by a report on the European-American Summit held in Florence. The participants discussed technological revolution and social policy for the 21st century. After the Summit, the US President went to the Bulgarian capital, Sofia. This was followed by a piece on further progress of Russian troops towards the Chechen capital, Grozny. The Russian Prime Minister reiterated there would be no peace until terrorists in Chechenia were destroyed. In Northern Ireland, the new Government, consisting of Catholic and Protestant representatives will start its work on December 2nd. This was the result of difficult negotiations made with the support of the ex US Senator, George Mitchell.

Visegrad / Foca (Srbinje)

Media information in Visegrad and Foca (Srbinje) have been mainly presented by Radio and Television of the RS (RTRS). Information from several sources, as a help in removing some post-war barriers, reach ordinary people with difficulty. These two towns are two biggest municipalities in the East Part of the RS. Mostar

A report on the meeting of 28 BiH radio editors and journalists at the media festival “Alter Media 99” in Mostar. Organizers of the event were the Culture Center and Radio X from Mostar. Main issues discussed at the two day meeting were improvement of cooperation, discussion on joint problems and presentation of new technologies, OBN reporter from Mostar, Denis Vila, confirmed.

Zenica

Theatre group from Belgrade, during the first official visit to BiH, performed in Zenica. This was their first performance for ten years. Audience was delighted with actors Vlastimir Djuza Stojiljkovic and Ljiljana Lasic. Organizers of the event were the Serb Civil Council from Zenica and the Serb Cultural Association “Prosveta”. Sport

Reports on the BiH Football Premier League, international skiing, tennis and football were presented. A report on NBA followed.

Sarajevo – Pale Road

A piece on rockslides which occurred on the road M-5 between Sarajevo and Pale. Approximately, 200 metres of the road were damaged. Two individuals were hurt. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Adis Saranovic.
