HJPCs Decided on the Numbers of Judges and Prosecutors on the Higher Tier Level

The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils have made decisions on the number of judges and prosecutors for the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the FBiH Supreme Court, the FBiH Prosecutor’s Office, the RS Supreme Court and the Office of the RS Prosecutor.

At a session of the HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina held yesterday, it was decided that the Court of BiH will have 15 judges in total. The BiH HJPC will therefore appoint eight more judges in addition to the seven appointed by the High Representative on 8 May 2002. The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH will have four prosecutors. The HJPC of Bosnia and Herzegovina is prepared to appoint more judges and prosecutors to these bodies later if their workload will require more staff.

At a session of the HJPC of the Federation BiH, held on 20November it was decided that the Supreme Court of the Federation of BiH shall have 21 judges and that the FBiH Prosecutor’s Office shall have nine prosecutors.

A session of the HJPC of the Republika Srpska, also held on 20 November, decided that the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska shall have 16 judges and that the Office of the RS Prosecutor shall have four prosecutors.

The HJPCs at State and Entity levels respectively are in the process of interviewing candidates for these posts and the first appointments are expected to be made next month.
