OHR looks into Fraud and Corruption Investigation in Tuzla

The Madrid Conference in December 1998 gave a mandate to the OHR to review fraud and corruption cases in Bosnia and Herzegovina and provide an overall fraud and corruption strategy.

Yesterday, in furtherance of this mandate, OHR representatives traveled to Tuzla and met with Cantonal Prosecutor Salcin Daznic and Federation Prosecutor Suljo Babic. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the fraud and corruption investigation initiated as a result of allegations made by former Governor Izet Hadzic. The meeting also included a representative of the Federation Police who also began a review of the investigation.

Later in the day, the OHR representatives met with the Cantonal Minister of the Interior Ferid Hodzic. The OHR stressed the need for a complete and competent investigation to facilitate public trust in the system. To further the goal of transparency, the OHR recommended that experts in the field of economic crime from IPTF also be invited to review and monitor the investigation.

The OHR representatives also met with former Governor Izet Hadzic. Mr. Hadzic outlined his allegations and indicated his willingness to provide a statement and evidence to the police.

The OHR looks forward to further cooperation in the investigation and intends to closely monitor the case.
