High Representative meets Bulgarian Foreign Minister

High Representative Valentin Inzko met with Bulgarian Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin in Sofia today for an exchange of views on the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The High Representative said that he expects the authorities that will be formed after the general elections in October to overcome the stalled reform process and pay more attention to the real-life concerns of citizens, which were voiced during the protests earlier this year.

Speaking of the election campaign, the High Representative deplored the inflammatory and insulting rhetoric of some candidates. He expressed the hope that citizens will reject such attempts to raise tensions and, instead, demand concrete answers from candidates on how they intend to address concrete issues such as unemployment, endemic corruption and falling education standards.

The High Representative also commended Bulgaria for its valuable and long-standing support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, including through its troop contribution to EUFOR.
