High Representative condemns fatal attack in Sarajevo

On Tuesday night Mr and Mrs Rade Rajkovic were attacked and robbed by intruders in their home in Sarajevo’s “Novi Grad” Municipality. Following the attack, Mr Rajkovic was rushed to Kosevo Hospital, where he died of his injuries on Wednesday morning.

The High Representative, Wolfgang Petritsch, is appalled by this murder. Mr Rajkovic and his wife, both pensioners, had returned only recently to their home in Sarajevo after being displaced during the war. The physical security of returnees, whatever their ethnic origin and whichever part of the country they go back to, must be a priority for all responsible agencies, at local, Entity and State level.

The High Representative is confident that the Federation authorities will exert the utmost effort to find the perpetrators of this horrific attack on two vulnerable citizens. Callous and cowardly attacks on returnees must not be allowed to impede the process of return, which is fundamental to the postwar recovery of BiH.

The High Representative extends his sincere condolences to the Rajkovic family, and assures them that they have the sympathy of right-thinking citizens throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
