The Mostar City Council session has adjourned again yesterday without success. By taking this step, the delegates of the Mostar City Assembly have again failed to meet one of their basic obligations to the citizens they have been elected to serve – to elect a mayor.
This ongoing failure, over four months after the elections were held in October 2008, is extremely disappointing and must be rectified without further delay.
The Statute provides a procedure for the new Mayor to be elected. The onus is now on the delegates to muster the political will and maturity to elect a new leader of Mostar government.
The Office of the High Representative urges the political parties represented in the City Council to now take the final step and elect a new mayor of Mostar without any further delay.
