Srebrenica Anniversary

Bodies of 610 killed Bosniaks transported to Potocari

 

 

 

 

 

BHT Tomislav Djuric – Bodies of 610 Bosniaks killed in Srebrenica in 1995 have been transported from Visoko to Potocari on Saturday. The remains will be buried on Monday, at the commemoration ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of Srebrenica tragedy. About 50.000 of people are expected at the ceremony. All preparations for the ceremony have been completed. Over 15 reporter teams from all around the world arrived to Potocari to report from the commemoration ceremony.

BHTLejla Redzovic – The convoy with remains of 610 Bosniak victims of Srebrenica killed in 1995 stopped in Sarajevo and Vogosca on its way from Visoko to Potocari. Citizens of Sarajevo gathered to pay the last honour to the victims, as well as Member of BiH Presidency Sulejman Tihic and members of “Association of Mothers of Srebrenica/Zepa Enclave”.

Security situation in Potocari good

 

BHT Tomislav Djuric – RS Police confirmed that the security situation in Potocari is very good. It’s expected that the commemoration ceremony in Potocari on Monday is going to be without any incidents. Last Monday, 35 kg of explosive have been found in Potocari. Since then, police has been securing the area. Police refused to provide any information on investigation on planting of explosive. According to unofficial sources, one of the perpetrators had left evidence on the scene, and forensic investigation is ongoing.

March of Death/Road to Freedom continues

 

BHT Samir Kahrovic – March in honour of Srebrenica genocide “March of Death/Road to Freedom” continued on Saturday. Participants of the march are walking back on the same route which lead many Srebrenica men to freedom after fall of Srebrenica in 1995. Many of the participants are survivors of Srebrenica genocide.

Scheffer stated that the massacre in Srebrenica must not be forgotten

 

RHB, Pink, Hayat, RTRS, Dnevni Avaz pg 2 ‘Mladic and Karadzic cannot hide forever’, Nezavisne Novine pg 3 – Secretary general of NATO HQ Jaap De Hoop Scheffer stated that the massacre in Srebrenica must not be forgotten. He added that Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic will not be hiding forever and that they will be brought to justice as well.

Greek intellectuals demand apology of Greece to Srebrenica victims

 

BHT, Hayat, FTV, Dnevni Avaz pg 2 ‘Greek should publicly apologize to families of killed Bosniaks’ – 43 public persons and intellectuals from Greece have signed an appeal inviting Greek authorities to apologize to families of massacred Bosniaks from Srebrenica, because Greece was on the side of Serbs during the war, and because of presence of Greek volunteer soldiers in Srebrenica during its fall in 1995. According to them, Greece is obliged to bring those volunteers to justice.

Tadic understands rage of Srebrenica residents; he is however confident he must go to Potocari

 

BHT – President of Serbia Boris Tadic stated that he knows that, form many people, he is not welcome in BiH. He is also aware that many people in Serbia believe that he shouldn’t attend the commemoration ceremony in Srebrenica. However, he believes that it is the only right thing to do, and the only thing that can be done after all. Oslobodjenje pg 6 ‘I want to pay respect to victims’ also carried the statement. Dnevni Avaz pg 5, mentioned on cover ‘We must interrupt the circle of evil in the Balkans’ carried an interview with Tadic in which he explains reasons why he had to come to Potocari.

Ashdown won’’t go to Kravice on Tuesday

 

BHT – HR Paddy Ashdown stated that he is not going to attend the commemoration ceremony for Serb victims, which will be held on Tuesday in Kravice near Potocari. “No, I won’t go, but I said that we will find an occasion to commemorate those victims,” said Ashdown.

Lovrinovic denied his failure to implement Laws on Secondary and Primary Education

 

 

 

 

 

RHB – On Friday High Representative Paddy Ashdown signed the Decision on removing the Central Bosnia Canton Education Minister Nikola Lovrinovic. The Decision bars Lovrinovic from holding any official, elective or appointive public office and from running in elections unless the High Representative authorizes him to do so. Minister Lovrinovic has failed to take action to implement Laws on Primary and Secondary Education and as a result has undermined the rule of law. Assets obtained through cutting costs by eliminating double administration could be used for improving working conditions for both students and teachers. Lovrinovic stated for RHB that he was invited by HR to come to his office in Sarajevo, hoping to discuss the coordination of the Laws when Ashdown handed him the decision on his removal from the office. “Without offence, I felt as when the coffee-house keeper fires his employee” added Lovrinovic. He denied his failure to implement the Laws on Primary and Secondary Education adding that “the adopted Laws are not according the BIH Constitution”. Lovrinovic claims that he was removed from the office without the arguments. He denied reports that by eliminating double administration they will cut the costs. The former Minister stated that he was at the briefing one month ago at OHR, “when the SDHR (no name) asked him to change the session’s agenda of National Assembly in Central BosniaCanton, which, of course, I couldn’t do”.

DL: Education reform without a joint position of Croat officials

 

Dnevni List pg 2, mentioned on cover ‘Education reform without a joint position by Croats’ – Central Bosnia Canton HDZ and Education Workers’ Trade Unions condemned the High Representative’s decision to remove Cantonal Education Minister Nikola Lovrinovic from office.  According to Central Bosnia HDZ Board Chairman Anto Spajic, the other four Croat education ministers in the federation did not follow Lovrinovic in education reform efforts and that is bad thing for Croats in BiH.   

EUPM supports continuation of police reform talks

 

Dnevni Avaz pg 2 ‘Carty: We need to see the process moving from the deadlock’ – European Union Police Mission (EUPM) is encouraged by recent statements from RS officials on the urgent need to re-engage all stakeholders in continuation of police reform talks in BiH. “We need to see the process moving from the deadlock and the BiH leadership engaging in a constructive dialogue that would bring about the necessary changes in the BiH police system,” said Commissioner Kevin Carty, Head of the EUPM. “It is imperative that we have a police system that offers an effective framework for the police and fair working conditions, it is only then, that the police force of this country will be able to provide professional service to all citizens,” said Carty. EUPM stands ready to support the country’s efforts to implement the police reform that would be in accordance with three EC principles.

British Ambassador Rycroft: ‘Police reform leads BiH to Europe

 

Nezavisne Novine pg 9 ‘Police reform leads BiH to Europe’ – In an interview for the daily, British Ambassador to BiH Matthew Rycroft said that BiH had a chance to start talks on Stabilization and Association Agreement with EU during the British presidency (i.e. in six months) if the BiH leaders reach agreement on police reform by mid September.  

Member of the International Commission on The Balkans Svilanovic: Ashdown felt insulted when he heard that his powers should be abolished

 

Nezavisne Novine pgs 14-15, mentioned on cover  ‘Ashdown felt insulted when he heard that his powers should be abolished’ – Interview with Goran Svilanovic, former SCG Foreign Minister and a current member of the International Commission on the Balkans, in which he unveiled details of the group member with HR Paddy Ashdown. “Ashdown was speaking with confidence but we believe that his powers should be eliminated as soon as possible becauyse3 they are counter-productive. And he felt a little bit insulted. The second important thing is to go towards a new BiH Constitution, which must make the state less complex, but which also must maintain its federal structure. RS is to survive as en element of the federation,” said Svilanovic.

Oslobodjenje: Jack Straw offering a secret agreement to BiH, Croatia and SCG

 

 

Oslobodjenje cover page, pg 3 ‘Jack Straw offering a secret agreement to BiH, Croatia and SCG’ – Francis Boyle, former head of BiH legal team in case BiH versus SCG before the International Court of Justice in The Hague, claims that BiH is winning the case based on the lawsuit for the aggression and genocide. According to Boyle, British Foreign Secretary Jack Starw has recently offered a secret agreement to be reached amongst BiH, Croatia and SCG that includes withdrawal of the BiH and Croatia’s lawsuit against SCG. The daily however learns from the Office of the Bosniak member of the BiH Presidency that Sulejman Tihic has rejected Straw’s initiative. The same did Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.    

Aleksandar Karadzic phoned home, his family scared for his life

 

RTRS – The arrested Aleksandar Karadzic phoned his family. His sister Sonja Karadzic claims that the conversation was monitored and that they are scared for his life due to recent statements issued by spokesperson of NATO HQ Derek Chapel. “Aleksandar Karadzic is treated according to the law and only humanitarian organisations are allowed to visit him. He will remain here as long as it will be necessary” stated Chapel.

The Hague Tribunal decides to hand over trials of two Serbs to BiH Court

 

Pink, BHT, RTRS, Dnevni Avaz pg 4 ‘General Milosevic to be tried in The Hague’, SRNA – A special chamber of The Hague Tribunal on Friday rejected an appeal lodged by the prosecution that the trial of General Dragomir Milosevic, ex-commander of the Sarajevo-Romanija Corps of the RS Army, be handed over to the BiH judiciary, it has been stated in The Hague. The special chamber of the Hague Tribunal, which decides on which cases should be referred to local processes, ruled for the second time and decided to hand over to the BiH Court the trials of Savo Todovic, ex-deputy head of Foca prison, and Mitar Rasevic, commander of prison guards. General Dragomir Milosevic was indicted by the Hague tribunal for the shelling of Sarajevo and sniping at civilians in the period from August 1994 and November 1995.

Reconstructed Osman-Pasa mosque in Trebinje to be opened on Sunday

 

Hayat Nevzeta Skrijelj – Reconstructed Osman-Pasa mosque in Trebinje is to be opened on Sunday. Moslem priest in Trebinje hopes that there will be no incidents during the opening ceremony, since numerous incidents happened while laying the cornerstone. Trebinje officials claim that a lot has changed since that time, that Trebinje civilized area, European and democratic town, etc, and that all Trebinje citizens, not only Muslims, should attend the ceremony.

Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry: No one is spying on 4,500 Sarajevo residents

 

Oslobodjenje pg 2 ‘Antennas belonging to a radio-amateur and OHR’, Dnevni Avaz pg 4 ‘No one is spying on/wiretapping 4,500 Sarajevo residents’ – After an Nezavisne Novine article of Friday saying that the illegal eavesdropping equipment had been installed near US, Chinese embassies in Sarajevo making spying on some 4,500 Sarajevo citizens possible, the Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry said in a statement issued on Saturday that it was not about any intelligence equipment. According to the Ministry, it is about four antennas installed on roof of a building in the Sarajevo suburb of Kosevsko Brdo and operating for five years now. One of them is being used by a radio-amateur as the others are belonging to OHR and are being used for establishing internal radio links amongst authorized OHR employees.   

Deputy BiH Minister Basic: BiH will not allow closure of access to Neum from sea

Regarding the announced start of construction of a bridge connecting the Croatian Adriatic Highway with Peljesac peninsula, BiH Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Haris Basic said that BiH would not allow the construction of the facility to jeopardize access to the BiH costal town of Neum from the sea.
