Missing Plane

Pieces of the Egypt Air plane, Boeing 767, which was missing since this morning, were found in the USA waters in Massachusets. The USA President, Bill Clinton, expressed his deep concern regarding the accident and asked the US administration to cooperate with the Egyptian authorities on the investigation. One hundred ninety seven passengers and fifteen crew members were on board. The plane was flying on the inter-continental flight between New York and Cairo. It is still not known what happened with the plane. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Mladen Maric.

The Hague

The International Tribunal for War Crimes organised a two day symposium for journalists from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia and Macedonia. The aim of the symposium, which at the same time was a beginning of a long-term project, was to make the Hague Tribunal closer to the public. The President of the Hague Tribunal, Gabrielle Kirk McDonald, explained why many of the cases lasted so long. The President said: “This is not something that you rush through. You are talking about somebody’s freedom.” She added that only last spring the Tribunal got three courtrooms. Before that, it had only one. This was followed by a piece on the Hague detention unit. The Supervisor of the detention unit, Timothy McFadden, explained details of the Hague prison cells. The report on this was produced by OBN journalist, Duska Jurisic.

The US Institute for Peace

Heads of the US Institute for Peace, during a visit to BiH, confirmed efforts for the establishment and beginning of work of the Commission for Truth and Reconciliation in BiH as soon as possible. The Representative of the Institute, William A.Stuebner, said that the Commission will give answers regarding the war period. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Damir Kaletovic.

Sarajevo

A piece on last Wednesday’s decision by the High Representative in BiH, Wolfgang Petritsch, about changes and annexes of property laws in both BiH entities. According to the changes, people who submit their claims for the return of flats owned by the state, will have to return to the flats within the period of 90 days. The High Representative also made a decision on the implementation of decisions made by the Commission for Property Claims of Refugees and Displaced Persons. A poll made on the streets of Sarajevo, about whether citizens believe in the implementation of the law, followed. OBN reporter, Vedran Persic, produced the report.

This was followed by a report on the Independent Intellectuals Association “Circle 99”, held in Sarajevo today. The members discussed the High Representative decision on the property law. The Government of the Sarajevo Canton did not discuss the text of the decision yet, OBN reporter, Anes Alic, confirmed.

World

More than fifty individuals, mainly teenagers, were killed in a fire in a South Korean restaurant. This was followed by a piece on the continuation of the Russian offensive in Chechenia and protests in Belgrade and Novi Sad where 6,000 people gathered on the streets to ask for the resignation of Slobodan Milosevic. One German soldier was killed in a car accident in Kosovo while the KFOR Commander said that the security situation in Kosovo improved over the last two months. This was followed by reports on current events in China, and elections in Ukraine and Gruzia. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Mladen Maric.

Macedonia

One million six hundred thousand citizens voted at the presidential elections in Macedonia. The voters had a selection of six candidates, OBN reporter from Skoplje, Safet Bisevac, confirmed.

Sarajevo

A piece on food products in the Sarajevo shops which are not for use because of the incorrect expiry date. The report on this was produced by OBN reporter, Amarildo Gutic.

Banja Luka

A piece on the World Day of Saving, October, 31st, was produced by OBN reporter from the town, Nedeljka Breberina. The reporter confirmed that many citizens lost their trust in banks while many of them do not have enough money even for their basic needs.

Sarajevo

At the press conference held today in Sarajevo, Director of the International Theatre Festival “MESS”, Dino Mustafic, said that this was the best festival for the last three years since it had been re-established. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Mirna Sadikovic.

A piece on the win of the chess players of “Bosna” in Bugojno at the European Chess Clubs Cup was followed by reports on local football, Formula One and skiing.
