  • The US President Clinton answered that Yeltsin did not forget that the US was a great power World Russian President, Boris Yeltsin, during his visit to Beijing, reacted to yesterday’s statement of the US President that Russia would pay a high price for their military actions in Chechenia. After his meeting with the Chinese leadership and receiving of their support, Boris Yeltsin said that the US had forgotten that Russia had big nuclear potential. The US President answered: “I do not agree with what is going on in Chechenia and I have an obligation to say so”. This was followed by a report on the statement of the Russian Prime Minister who said that it was completely untrue that relations between the two countries had become cool. Lukavica

Today, representatives of three existing pension and invalid insurance funds met in Lukavica. The meeting was organised in order to sign an agreement on mutual rights and obligations. The representatives of the three funds could not agree on which date their responsibilities for paying of pension-payments would begin – from August 1st last year of from the date the agreement is signed. Sarajevo

A report on the session of the BiH Federation Government held in Sarajevo today. It was agreed that the BiH Federation Government will not determine the maximum price for electricity, postal and telecommunication services and coal for power plants. However, the Government reserved the right to determine the maximum price of fuel. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Adis Saranovic.

Doboj

A piece on the one day hunger strike in the Doboj textile factory “Kloteks”. This was only a warning protest, and the real strike was announced for January. The biggest part of the production facilities of the factory have not been working for the last few years. A hundred and seven workers think that the authorities have been trying to decrease the worth of the factory before privatisation. Banja Luka

The International Mediator for the BiH Federation and the RS, Christian Schwarz Schilling, visited Banja Luka today. The Mediator met with the RS Vice President, Mirko Sarovic, and the Deputy Minister of Refugees and Displaced Persons, Petar Dzodan. Christian Schwarz Schilling said it was high time for the RS to use services of the international mediators regarding return to this entity because they were obviously not able to do that on their own. The report was produced by OBN reporter from Banja Luka, Sanela Zivkovic.

During today’s visit of Christian Schwarz Schilling to Banja Luka, local authorities and the RS Ministry of Refugees and Displaced Persons signed an agreement according to which they would provide information on apartments which were given during the war and the report on multiple users of apartments, within a three week period. Also, the RS authorities promised they would speed up the process of solving 800 cases of using other people’s property in Banja Luka.

Podgorica, Montenegro

After last night’s clash between Montenegrin police and the Federal Republic Yugoslavia Army at the civil airport in Podgorica, the current situation in Montenegro is tense. The Montenegrin Government was planning to announce new members of the Steering Board of the Montenegrin airport. The old management was under the control of the Government from Belgrade. Sarajevo

SFOR Deputy Commander, the British General Mike Willcocks, said that during this year, the entities arm forces have made an important progress in the implementation of the Peace Agreement. During today’s meeting of the Joint Military Commission, it was agreed that light weapon of dismissed unites would be destroyed in accordance with the agreement on decreasing of military potential. Travnik

A two month crisis regarding the functioning of the legislative and executive authorities in the Srednja-Bosna Canton ended. Representatives of two leading political parties in the area, HDZ and CDA agreed to continue with their work in the Srednja-Bosna Canton Assembly and to discuss only those issues where a political consensus of the two parties was reached.

In practice, this would mean the real beginning of democratic decision making in the area. The report was produced by OBN reporter from the area, Vanja Elezovic.

Mostar

A representative of the HRT in the negotiations about Erotel, Jozo Curic, resigned. He explained his decision with statements of some the International Community representatives that they boycott Erotel because of the participation of some individuals in the negotiations about the further destiny of the company. Sarajevo

Intellectuals from BiH, Croatia, Yugoslavia and Slovenia met in Sarajevo in order to discuss their war and post-war engagement in the ex-Yugoslavia region. Very often, intellectuals had been accused they were silent. They say they were talking but no-one was listening or they were afraid to speak up freely. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Anes Alic. A few days ago, 30 copies of the book “Mein kampf” by Adolf Hitler, 100 DEM each, were sold in a Sarajevo bookshop. OBN reporter, Sanjin Beciragic, researches what people who suffered from the nazi ideology and other citizens of Sarajevo thought about that.
