Entities have no right to secede under the Dayton Peace Agreement

Reacting to factually incorrect statementsreported in the media, High Representative Valentin Inzko today reiterated thatBosnia and Herzegovina is an internationally recognized state whose sovereigntyand territorial integrity is guaranteed under international law and by theDayton Peace Agreement.

“Entities have no right to secede from Bosniaand Herzegovina under the Dayton Peace Agreement. The constitutional structureof Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the existence of the entities, can only bechanged in accordance with the amendment procedure prescribed in theConstitution of BiH”, the High Representative said.

The High Representative stressed thatpoliticians in BiH must end the practice of threatening unilateral changes tothe constitutional structure of the country and comply fully with the DaytonPeace Agreement.

The International Community retains thenecessary instruments to counter destructive tendencies and it will not allowattempts to undermine the Dayton Peace Agreement.
