Supervisor welcomes the adoption of Brcko District Spatial Plan

The Supervisor of Brcko, Dr. Raffi Gregorian, welcomes yesterday’s decision by the Brcko District Assembly to adopt the Spatial Plan for Brcko District and thanks all those who helped make it possible.  The Supervisor expects continued efforts towards development and adoption of subsequent spatial planning documents.

The four year delay in finalizing and adopting the plan was an obstacle to effective and transparent development of the District, caused considerable impediments to investment in the infrastructure and economy, and made urban planning susceptible to corruption.

The adoption of the plan constitutes a major step forward towards lifting the moratorium on the development of Regulatory Plans, imposed by the former Supervisor, Susan R. Johnson, on 7 November 2005. The adoption of a revised Urban Development Plan is now the next priority, in order to allow Regulatory Plans to be developed and thus to eventually lift the moratorium.

The Supervisor’s office will continue to assist the District Government in drafting a new Law on Spatial Planning that will be more transparent, simpler and effective.
