The High Representative has welcomed the news that the European Commission has approved a Feasibility Report assessing the readiness of Serbia and Montenegro a Stabilisation and Association Agreement, and said that the news highlights the region’s shift towards EU membership.
“This is good news. It shows that the Balkans is increasingly making its way towards the EU. Serbia and Montenegro had to complete their tasks including ICTY cooperation and tough negotiations on the Constitutional Charter. Now BiH must complete its tasks, including the very difficult issue of police reform,” he said, referring to the upcoming negotiations on police restructuring in BiH.
The High Representative said that the news shows that cooperation with the ICTY, and fulfilling the conditions set by the EU achieves results. “The door of the EU is ajar and there is everything to play for,” he said.
