Commenting on the arrest of Ante Gotovina the High Representative said:
“This is extremely welcome news and sweeps away one of the barriers that has been holding back the regions progress towards NATO and EU membership.
It increases the pressure on the authorities in Banja Luka and in Belgrade to hand over the remaining persons indicted for war crimes to The Hague, in particular Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic.
The spotlight is now on Banja Luka and Belgrade. The International community will now be watching closely to see whether Ante Gotovina’s arrest will be followed by further arrests.”
