Statement: FBiH to solve location of Ministries

Last week’s Steering Board Political Directors Communique stressed the need to “move five Federation ministries from Sarajevo to Mostar”. This is a long standing obligation of the Federation authorities. The Dayton Agreement on Implementing the Federation of BiH dated 10 November 1995 obliged the Federation of BiH to locate a number of Federation ministries in Mostar.

Some progress has been made in the last 2 years, but the Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry and the Ministry of Traffic and Communications have yet to complete their relocation to Mostar. Much work remains to be done for this long overdue Dayton requirement to be fully implemented.

OHR therefore calls for the Federation of BiH authorities to work with the Mostar City and Cantonal authorities to fully and without further delay implement this legal obligation of the Federation.

By doing so the Federation authorities will not only meet a long outstanding legal requirment but will also confirm their commitment to Mostar and its citizens.
