Seselj persona non grata in Bosnia and Herzegovina

On behalf of the High Representative, Ambassador Jacques Paul Klein, Principal Deputy High Representative, last night declared Dr Vojislav Seselj persona non grata in Bosnia and Herzegovina and directed him to leave the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately.

This action was taken pursuant to the authority vested in the High Representative under Annex 10 of the General Framework Agreement for Peace (GFAP), as interpreted in the Bonn provisions. Dr Seselj’s activities and statements both during the war and recently offer clear evidence that his presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina would constitute an activity detrimental to the implementation of the GFAP and interference in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Office of the High Representative, accompanied by SFOR, notified President of the Republika Srpska Nikola Poplasen and Dr Seselj of this decision at the Hotel Bosna in Banja Luka, where Dr Seselj was staying. Dr Seselj agreed to leave the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately. He left the hotel at around 1.20 hours on 14 November and left Bosnia and Herzegovina at around 4.30 hours. His departure was monitored by SFOR units.
