SBA visit Brcko District

At the initiative of Brcko Supervisor, Ambassador Roderick Moore, Peace Implementation Council Steering Board (PIC SB) Ambassadors today visited Brcko District.  In the course of numerous meetings in Brka and in the town of Brcko, the Ambassadors met with a significant number of District residents who offered a broad spectrum of views on the economic, political, and social situation in the District.   The Ambassadors’ interlocutors included pupils, teachers, farmers, returnees, NGOs, business people and members of the executive and legislative authority.

This visit represents one important component of an effort launched by the Supervisor to acquaint PIC SB Ambassadors with the current situation in Brcko District prior to the next session of the PIC SB on March 29-30.  This visit is timely, as the recent resolution of electricity supply and regulation for Brcko District – one of the conditions previously established for the closure of the Arbitral Tribunal and Supervision — has paved the way for discussions within the PIC SB regarding the future of international engagement in Brcko District.   Under the Final Award of the Arbitral Tribunal, the PIC SB plays an important role in determining whether the Supervisory regime should be continued.

In the weeks ahead, the Supervisor and High Representative will be consulting with the individual members of the PIC SB members in order to hear their views about the Arbitral Tribunal and the future of Supervision.

Ambassador Moore regrets that he could not take part in the visit as initially planned, due to his participation in ongoing efforts to seek a solution to the formation of authorities in the Federation.
