OHR believes that whenever serious allegations of misuse of public funds are made, such as those raised against the administration of Sanski Most Mayor Mehmed Alagic, it is in everyone’s best interest that the accusations be fully, fairly and expeditiously investigated.
OHR is encouraged by the actions that have been taken to date by Sanski Most Municipal Prosecutor, Suad Sabic, President of the Municipal Court, Adil Draganovic, as well as the Una-Sana Cantonal Prosecutor, Asim Dzafic, in initiating an investigation into these matters.
We are concerned, however, that a number of public officials involved in investigating the allegations have been threatened and pressured not to do their job.
OHR condemns any attempt to impede any independent investigation being conducted by public officials, as the Rule of Law requires that public officials must be able to conduct their official duties without interference.
We will continue to monitor the situation in Sanski Most closely, and we urge everyone to respect the rule of law.
