Religious organisations can help to rebuild the inclusive tradition of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina by bearing authentic witness to the primacy of love that is at the heart of their beliefs, High Representative Valentin Inzko said yesterday.

The High Representative was speaking at a forum in Graz organised by the Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue.

The High Representative expressed the view, that “religious people and religious organisations have a more profound and positive impact on society when they focus on fundamental truths rather than on the narrow objectives of day-to-day politics.”

He said rebuilding places of worship that were destroyed or damaged during the conflict is a legitimate part of post-war recovery and reconciliation.

“It isn’t enough not to hate,”the High Representative concluded that “it is imperative that believers actively champion the message of love and understanding.”
