OHR/EUSR Welcomes Adoption of the FBiH Law on Conflict of Interest

OHR/EUSR welcomes today’s adoption of the Law on Conflict of Interest of Governmental Institutions of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in FBiH House of People under the urgent procedure.  The law enters into force at a crucial moment as it establishes a control mechanism of FBIH officials before the certification of the election results.

The RS National Assembly adopted the Law on Conflict of Interest in Governmental Bodies of Republic of Srpska in July 2008 while Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina has adopted the Law on Conflict of Interest in Institutions of Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2003 and amended it in 2007. Until today the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina was the only level of government left without any legislation regulating this important matter.

“This law is an important piece of legislation as it strengthens the rule of law, good governance and the fight against corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The law establishes an oversight mechanism and a system of sanctions that will ensure proper control over the work and behavior of public officials in the FBIH ” said the High Representative and EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčák.
