KOSOVO NEWS

In spite of numerous appeals made by foreign politicians the situation in Kosovo is not stable yet. K-for soldiers found 6 massacred bodies of Serbs kidnapped on 16th of June.- reported SRNA correspondent; According to BBC, two elderly Serbs were murdered in Prizren; Unidentified attacker injured one Serb in the centre of Pristina. K-for has started the investigation of this event.- REUTERS

SRT correspondent (Radmila Urosevic) from Belgrade reports on:

– cancelling of the decision on state of war; – Extraordinary session of the Synod is taking place. Patriarch Pavle attends the session. – Serb refugees from Kosovo gathered in the centre of Belgrade for the third time, though in a less number than in previous two days. Nobody tried to address the gathered people today. Most demonstrators were commenting their chances for the safe future in Kosovo as well as the yesterday’s event when two men were arrested and sentenced to 30 days in prison for attempting to organise a protest.

SRT correspondent reports on Serbs from many towns in Serbia returning to Kosovo;

British K-for soldiers set up check-points in the south of Pristina where they search cars with Macedonian and Albanian plates, which are mostly used by terrorists to enter Kosovo;

Wesley Clark called for speeding up the deployment of K-for troops in Kosovo. He said that the K-for mission might have to be more numerous than envisaged. He said that in the past 12 days, 17000 of planned 55 000 troops had been deployed in Kosovo. – BETA

Clinton visited Macedonia to meet Macedonian and Albanian top officials. After the meeting Clinton visited refugee camp in Stenkovac where he appealed to Albanians to refrain from vengeance ; The item is accompanied by CNN footage of Clinton in refugee camp in Stenkovac;

Javier Solana said that international efforts to secure peace in Yugoslavia and bring normal life back to Kosovo were proceeding ahead of schedule; – BBC

Russia’s Federation Council to meet on sending Russian troops to Kosovo;

Chernomyrdin is expected to take part in the debate on situation in Kosovo and Yugoslavia in Strasbourg;

China does not support G-8 decision for IC to deny to Serbia economic aid while Milosevic rules the country;

Demonstrations against Clinton organised in Skopje (Macedonia);

Albright visited Sofia today where she met Bulgarian top officials. They discussed the role of Bulgaria in Kosovo crisis. Albright said that Bulgaria was an important partner of NATO;

FRY REACTIONS

Djindjic met Cook in London : West should help the reconstruction of Serbia because it is the best way to strengthen the democratic opposition in Serbia. It is necessary to support people otherwise they will become more radical. During the course of next following days we have isolate Milosevic, said Djindjic.

SPO: Draskovic called on extraordinary elections at all levels through the agreement with SPS and JUL and in accord with the OSCE principles.- SRNA

Novak Kilibarda: Serbia should be deprived of any aid, except humanitarian, as long as Milosevic is the president;

Djukanovic- Clinton meeting. The main topics were reconstruction of Kosovo;- BETA Djukanovic said in interview to “Pobjeda” ( Podgorica based newspapers) that Montenegro would provide support in logistics to the forces in Kosovo;

SNS: supports Synod statement and condemns Silajdzic’s statement on the return of refugees;

SNSD: supports Zivko Radisic action regarding BiH law suit against FRY;

RS Defence Minister, Milovanovic meets the General Inspector, Robert Tomashevic to discuss promotion conditions for officers in both entities;

Deputy HR Miguel Arias stated in Prijedor today that the return to Prijedor and the left bank of Sana will commence soon. Prijedor local officials expressed their support to the idea.
