Corruption in BiH should be IC priority – Sarovic

RS Vice-president Mirko Sarovic stated for SRNA in Serb Sarajevo that the fight against corruption and the misuse of public funds and international aid deserves to be a priority of the International Community and local structures of both entities. He added that it is obvious that an explanation of this problem should be the focus of the IC, especially the High Representative and his administration. “The latest storm regarding corruption that splashed the faces of the BiH Federation provoked reactions from different levels, starting from the US Administration, the OHR and BiH Federation authorities. It brings something new from day to day, so that we will have to wait for the final outcome of the affair” he stated, and added that the RS public should be concerned too because several statements in the press focused on corruption in the RS. Sarovic thinks that it is too soon for final estimations and that the issue might become one of the RS National Assembly agenda items. Commenting on the professional police and independent judiciary in RS and the BiH Federation, he said that they are now in the restructuring phase reviewed by the IC. He expects quick changes in the RS judiciary. He emphasised the requests of international organisations to introduce European standards in the judiciary.

News Summary

Sarovic on final arbitration decision to Brcko

RS Vice-president Mirko Sarovic believes that the final arbitration decision, including the annex, represents a classic international protectorate with unlimited duration and authority to the supervisor. The arbitration decision and its annex dissatisfy Sarovic because vital changes are missing. Sarovic stated that basic RS requests had not been adopted. Sarovic considers that nobody in the RS should be satisfied with the decision. In his opinion, the final arbitration decision represents the defeat of RS policy. Sarovic hopes that RS leaders will fully answer its citizens.
