BiH Public Broadcasting Service holds press conference

The BiH Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Establishing Board held a press conference in Sarajevo. BiH PBS representatives gave information regarding this public service and the reconstruction of the public information system in BiH. BiH PBS Establishing Board President Tadej Labernik said that the job of stopping the work of TV BiH and forming two new televisions should be completed by mid-May. During that period, the RTV BiH Federation should start broadcasting its program, added Labernik. “The Corporation should start to work until the end of this year” said Labernik in reference to the PBS BiH Corporation. In the beginning, the PBS will not have its own relay transmitter network but will use entity transmitters. Labernik said that the Establishing Board expects all participants in the process to give their maximum support. The Establishing Board considers the new system of public electronic media in BiH to be one of the most important steps in furthering the democratization of BiH. This new system of public electronic media will be organized the way independent services are organized, in accordance with the best European media standards. The mandate of the incumbent General Director of TV BiH stops when the representative (international agent) starts the transfer of property. An interim management will then take over the duties and obligations of the TV BiH General Director. In that period, the interim management will manage the business and programming activities of TV BiH. The property of TV BiH will be shared, in accordance with current positive regulations, among all subjects who compose the present system of public broadcasting. The construction of a new information system in BiH will be continued in accordance with the model of independent services that is currently in function for all BiH citizens, Labernik concluded.
