Petritsch says BiH needs to fulfill three conditions to become member of European Council

At a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the European Council, High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch said that there are three conditions which BiH must fulfill in order to become a member of the Council. Petritsch said that the conditions that could be fulfilled over night are the functioning of basic state institutions, such as the Government, Presidency and Parliament, the adoption of an election law and implementation of 40 articles of the Human Rights Law. Speaking of the Krajisnik arrest, Petritsch said that individual trials decrease the collective guilt of a nation.

I am obsessed with idea of adapting Dayton Agreement – Petritsch

“I have been obsessed with idea of adapting the Dayton Agreement” stated High Representative Wolfgang Petritsch. “Even if I was once ready to accept it as a temporary solution, I am now aware of all its limitations.” The international plan for immediate reconstruction and the strategy for reform stabilization in BiH are facing many problems, the most important of which are misunderstanding and rivalries between Americans and Europeans. “The Americans in charge of economic reforms forced their idea that improvements will start after privatization, but no one has realized the true statistics of the BiH economy” said Daniel Besson, Head of the OHR Economic Department. He added that a majority of already privatized companies belong to nationalist parties still operating along Tito’s concept. “This year is crucial for the BiH economy” said French Consulate Olivier Andretic. “Deadlines for international support are expiring, the donors probably will not continue financial support and BiH urgently needs private foreign investments.”

Barry denies allegations regarding OSCE slogan “Vote for changes”

Head of the OSCE Mission Robert Barry officially denied that the OSCE slogan “Vote for Changes” is actually a message to the voters not to vote for the parties currently in power. Barry said that the decision to hold the general elections depends on the OSCE Permanent Council and that a decision could be made in May.
