Sarajevo – The BiH basketball national team victory in the qualification match against Croatia 74:67, as well as some repeated parts of the match itself, took up the whole first 10 minutes of the main news. It was the first official local match of the representation since BiH became a sovereign state. The spontaneous celebration of the people in Skenderia hall and outside of the sport centre, which was going on for hours after match has ended, has never been seen in Sarajevo. Last night’s match was more than just sport.

Alija Izetbegovic, BiH Presidency Chairman among others, sent his congratulations to the basketball players straight after the match ended. At the reception he gave in the Presidency he then personally congratulated the players and the basketball officials on their success in the qualifications for the Europe competition. It is my honour I am glad to have the opportunity to meet sportsmen who in the match against Croatia showed that a generation is growing up in BiH to show in the best way to the whole world who the Bosnians are, he said and admitted that he turned off the TV set in the moment when Croatian team equalised and turned it on again after 15 minutes to find out that the Bosnians were again leading. Izetbegovic concluded that, This match was correctly given the name of an “infarct” match.

Livno – During her visit to Livno yesterday, Elisabeth Rehn, UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights condemned the behaviour of the ruling officials there, ONASA informs. The firm Livno-Bus sacked 57 workers of Bosniak nationality and hired Croats on their places. She said that such behaviour would be unacceptable in any country which is fighting for democratic principles. She said that the representatives of the Bosniak side should participate in the legally chosen municipal authority. Rehn also said that the media in BiH represented for her one of the biggest headaches. She supported the unique school education system in BiH which acknowledges all national, cultural and religious specifics of the students. She also expressed her concern about the inefficiency of the BiH judiciary system in the field of recognising private ownership in the process of refugee return.

FRY President Slobodan Milosevic, while visiting China recently, among other things agreed on purchasing medium range ballistic missiles. In order to give an example of how far can these missiles can reach, the anchor said that fired from Belgrade they could reach any target in Sarajevo, Vienna, Bucharest, Tirana Sofia, Skoplje, etc. 1:30 Una-Sana Canton – A traffic report from Una-Sana Canton was commented on. The report included: the percentage of traffic incidents; the number of cars being driven in the canton which are considered too old; concern because of frequent chaos in traffic and the all too oft occurrence of drivers without licences. Caution was recommended to the drivers especially in the coming days before Christmas.
