Sydney

27th Summer Olympic Games started in Sydney today. Sportsmen from 119 world countries participate in the Olympics. For the first time, B&H Olympic team is among them. Reported by Igor Kristic.

Sarajevo

The Head of the OSCE Mission in B&H, Ambassador Robert Barry announced an anti-corruption campaign of OSCE. Slogan of the campaign is “Outvote Corruption”, and the main aim is fight against corruption, nepotism, crimes etc. Citizens of B&H are invited to participate in the campaign. “Privatisation of the “Holiday Inn” hotel in Sarajevo was not cancelled”, said the Chairman of the Canton Court, Amir Jaganjac. “The original decision of the Privatisation Agency is not questioned”, Mr. Jaganjac added. Svjetlana Celic produced the report.

Prince of Saudi Arabia, Selman Bin Abdul Asis opened a newly constructed art centre and the mosque “King Fahd Bin Abdul Asis” in Sarajevo. The Chairman of the B&H Presidency, Alija Izetbegovic attended the ceremony, as well as several thousands B&H citizens, Sevko Bajic confirmed.

Kakanj

The Franciscan friars of “Bosna Srebrna” organised their annual gathering in Kraljeva Sutjeska, Branka Vrebac reported.

World

Selim Brosi, an Albanian who had worked for Yugoslav police was killed in Pristina. The media in Kosovo proclaimed 24-hour silence, protesting against violence.

The international forces forbid the leader of Yugoslav leftists, Mira Markovic to enter Kosovo.

The UN Assembly session continued in New York.

6 people died in a suicidal attack of a member of Tamil Tigers in Shri Lanka.

Indonesia and the UN signed an agreement on future fate of 120 000 refugees from East Timor.

Protests against high fuel prices started in Spain, Ireland, Poland and Czech Republic. Zeljka Lekic reported on world events.

Travnik

The USAID invested $40 million in Srednjo-Bosanski Canton so far. The USAID Director, Edward Kadunc visited Travnik today and met the President and Deputy President of the Canton. “We will continue to have programs here, as long as the support for minority returns continues”, Mr. Kadunc said. Sarajevo

After dissolving ZPPs, commercial banks will perform the business transactions. The B&H Central Bank is trying to provide regular amounts of money for commercial banks. Supervisory agencies in both entities are checking readiness of the banks. Reported by Amarildo Gutic.

Visegrad

There are about 12 000 refugees in Visegrad. Construction of the settlement Garca for accommodation of the refugees started in 1996.The OHR stopped construction in 1998, due to non-implementation of property laws. Refugees still live in the collection centre “Novo Zoranovo”. Representatives of local SDS authorities did not want to give any comments on this issue. The report was produced by Damir Kaletovic.
