Istanbul

After a strong earthquake which struck North West Turkey yesterday, number of casualties has been increasing every hour. More than 300 people were killed and 2,168 people were injured. This earthquake occurred 88 days after the disastrous earthquake which struck Turkey on August 17th. The report for OBN was produced by Jusko Bojadzic from Istanbul.

Dayton, Ohio

US Administration organised the international conference four years after signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement which ended the war in BiH. Results achieved up to date and perspectives of the future development have been analyzed at the Conference. Main topic of the conversation between BiH leaders and US diplomats was the need for economic reconstruction in BiH, OBN journalist, Gordana Frimel, confirmed.

Sarajevo

A report on the recently proposed election draft law by OSCE. Head of the OSCE Mission in BiH, Ambassador Robert Barry, said that the draft law was the result of a compromise. He added that he believed that amendments made to the law, would improve it. Today, a round table meeting was organised by the BiH Forum of Democratic Alternative. Topic of the meeting was “Permanent Election Law in BIH”. The International Crisis Group was not optimistic as Ambassador Barry. They think that this law would only further legalise ethnic cleansing. Tesanj

Participation of Bosnia and Herzegovina women in politics has been improved since last year. However, their participation is still not sufficient. Because of that, OSCE started an action in order to support women in those activities. Twenty five women were invited to the training in Tesanj. However, all of them did not come to the training.

Istanbul

In Turkish capital, Summit of OSCE member countries will be held on 18th and 19th November. Fifty four countries announced to participate in the Summit. Strong security measures have been introduced. It is expected that approximately 5,000 guests will arrive in Istanbul and some 900 journalists.

World

A report on the difficult health state of the Croatian President, Franjo Tudjman, and current political situation in the Republic of Croatia was followed by a report on the UN humanitarian plane which crashed yesterday in Kosovo. All 21 passengers and 3 crew members were killed. This was followed by reports on elections in Macedonia and current events in Chechenia. The report was produced by OBN journalist, Gordana Frimel.

Sarajevo

A piece on the meeting organised by the association of independent intellectuals “Circle 99” and PEN Center of BiH. Topic of the meeting was “Role of Writers in War – from Engagement to Shame”. The guest of the meeting was the writer from Slovenia, Boris Novak, the Chairman of the Peace Committee of PEN, OBN reporter, Adis Saranovic, confirmed.

This was followed by a piece on the promotion of a book “Scream of Srebrenica” by Jasminka Halilagic. The book describes crimes committed over people of Srebrenica, and human values. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Anes Alic. The second part of the book will be published at the beginning of next year.

Tuzla

A piece on the recent opening of two borings out of five in the salt mine “Tetima” at the foot of the Majevica mountain. This event was welcomed because, among other things, it should stop sinking of the town of Tuzla. OBN reporter from the area, Marko Divkovic, reserched whether opening of the mine “Tetima” in Tuzla was a political game because two concepts regarding opening of the mine were confronted. Some experts claim this would bot stop process od sinking of the Tuzla town.

Sarajevo

A report on three individuals who came to Sarajevo to find job. It is not unusual thing that people come to the capital to find a job. However, in this case, these three people came from New York and Belgrade. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Vedran Persic.

Pridjel Gornji (Doboj)

A report on the return of refugees to the Pridjel Gornji village near Doboj. Although it was planned that 109 houses would be reconstructed, only 30 of them have been finished partially. The houses lack tile.

Sarajevo

A piece on deaf people in the Sarajevo Canton. Only in this Canton, some 600 members have been registered in the Association of Deaf People. It seems that only this institution takes care for these people. The report was produced by OBN reporter, Sevko Bajic.
