The Temporary Election Commission removed following candidates from voting lists: Stjepan Kljujic (B&H Republicans), Murat Smajovic and Emina Herak (BPS), Aziz Gluscevic, Dzenita Gabela and Ahmed Sunja (LDS), and Zdenko Vego (HDZ). Sabira Cviko (SDP) has been removed due to violation of the article 7.16a of the Commission rules. Reported by Meliha Hasanbegovic.

The High Representative replaced the following members of the State Demining Commission: Enes Cengic, Milos Krstic and Berislav Pusic, the OHR announced.

Banja Luka

5 delegates from the RS Assembly are in the Head Office of the RS “Elektroprivreda”, not allowing the newly appointed Director, Marko Asanin to enter the building. “We feel that the new contract on “Elektroprivreda” is unfavourable”, Dragutin Ilic, the SPRS member. “This is a mere pre-election political game”, the replaced Minister of Energy and Mining, Vladimir Dokic said. Banja Luka

80 employees of the tyre factory “Sintetik” in Ramici, near Banja Luka have been on strike for a month, demanding their monthly salaries. Employees and the Director mutually accuse themselves of causing difficult situation in the company, Suzana Vukcevic reported.

Sarajevo

The Federal Government defined a new law proposal on changes in the Law on pension insurance, although the World Bank and the IMF insisted that the Law remains unchanged. The Government will submit the new law proposal to the Federal Parliament, Mirna Sadikovic reported.

World

The US President, Bill Clinton removed oil and flight embargo against Yugoslavia. Other sanctions will remain effective until the FRY fulfils requests of the ICTY.

The Special UN Envoy for the Balkans, Carl Bildt visited Belgrade.

The Yugoslav President, Vojislav Kostunica announced visit to Montenegro tomorrow.

The Yugoslav Army is still blocking the border crossing between Albania and Montenegro.

The Israeli Army attacked a police station in Ramallah, afte two Israelis were killed by Palestinians in the station. The UN Secretary General, Kofi Anan returned to Israel, after discussions with the Lebanon President on faith of three Israeli soldiers who had been kidnapped last week.

At least 4 sailors died in an explosion on an American ship in Yemen.

15 people died in an explosion of a lorry in Grozny.

Basic condition for B&H membership of the Council of Europe is adoption of the Election Law. A new Parliament will have a very difficult task after the elections, in correcting all mistakes of the current one, Damir Kaletovic reported.

Zepce

The SDA finds the decision of the High Representative on integration of Zepce unacceptable. Representatives of the SDA did not participate in today’s session of the Interim Board in Zepce. Reported by Olivera Dimac.

IPTF supervises formation of the multi-ethnic police in both B&H entities. According to the Canton Sarajevo Minister of Internal Affairs, Ismet Dahic hiring minorities who were educated in the RS would only create redundant police staff in both entities. Mr. Dahic feels that priority is inter-entity exchange of the existing staff. Svjetlana Celic produced the report.

Teams of entity armies, SFOR and OSCE organised observing flight over two “worrying zones” today. The aim of the mission was reduction of tensions between parties, Vedran Persic reported.
