HJPC Announce Open Competition for About 900 Judicial and Prosecutorial Positions

The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils (HJPCs), pursuant to their competence under law, announced an open competition for appointment to a projected number of posts in all Cantonal and Municipal courts and prosecutors’ offices in the Federation of BiH and all District and Basic courts and prosecutors’ offices in Republika Srpska.

The projected number of vacancies for each court and prosecutors office is set out after the name of each court and prosecutors office in vacancy material. These projected figures, which include all categories of position including Court President, Chief Prosecutor and Deputy Chief Prosecutor, are subject to final determination by the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils.

In order to be eligible for the announced posts, an individual must fulfill the following basic requirements set forth in the laws on the respective High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council:

  • be a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina;
  • be a graduate from a law school in Bosnia and Herzegovina or in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia or from another law school provided that the diploma issued from that school has been validated in accordance with the law;
  • shall have passed a bar examination administered in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia or, in respect of currently serving judges and prosecutors, in another country whose territory was part of the territory of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

In addition to the basic requirements, an individual must fulfill specific practical experience requirements set forth in the Laws on HJPCs.

In making appointments, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Councils shall implement relevant constitutional provisions regulating the equal rights and representation of constituent peoples and others. Appointments shall have, as an objective, the achievement of equality between women and men.
