The Confidence Building Measures Committee today forwarded four proposals for consideration by the City authorities.
The committee was established by a decision of the High Representative on April 7, 2004 to generate ideas for practical initiatives that will help all the citizens of Mostar. The committee is tasked with gathering together ideas, initiatives and suggestions from Mostar citizens. Groups of citizens and citizens’ associations from areas of business, culture, art, ecology, sports and other forms of social life are invited to address the Committee with their ideas and suggestions.
The committee has now drawn up its first four proposals:
- Irrigation of the Bijelo Polje. When completed, this will benefit all communities living in vast area north of the city. The construction of an irrigation system would enhance the great potentials for agriculture in this area by using of water from Salakovac accumulation.
- Establishing an NGO forum. In order to facilitate the development of civic life in Mostar CBMC recommend establishing of City Administration department for cooperation with the NGO’s sector. A coordinator would also be appointed to provide continuous interaction between the city authorities and civic society groups in Mostar.
- Recreation facilities in Bijeli Brijeg –This project covers an inner city area of interest for all and Radobolja riverfront. In cooperation with local ecological associations cleaning actions should be organized to clean the riverbed of Radobolja and to also stop further deterioration of its riverbanks
- Single medical emergency calling service (Ambulances). This would include an improvement of communication facilities operating throughout the city. Establishment of a single medical emergency calling service will benefit to all the citizens in Mostar, which will result in strengthening the public trust for the city services. Needles to say that establishment of such system will improve safety of citizens in cases of medical emergency where citizens can rely on prompt and professional response of medical service with the aim to get the best possible and the most urgent service.
These proposals will now be taken forward in discussions with the City authorities.
