Inzko Welcomes BiH Progress on Visa Liberalisation

The HR/EUSR, Valentin Inzko, today welcomed the European Commission’s proposal to grant visa-free travel to BiH citizens soon, following the recent progress achieved by Bosnia and Herzegovina in fulfilling most of the requirements for visa liberalisation with the European Union.

“The announcement is testimony that reforms, when carried out with the necessary urgency and dedication, will be rewarded and will directly benefit all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Inzko said, recalling the many recent occasions he had to encourage this process, a concrete step towards Europe for all BiH citizens.

The HR/EUSR urged the BiH authorities to take advantage of the coming weeks and months to meet all remaining conditions, so that nothing stands in the way of a decision to grant visa-free travel for Bosnia and Herzegovina this autumn.

The European Commission today presented its proposals enabling citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to travel with biometric passports to the Schengen countries without requiring short-term visas, provided that the country satisfies outstanding requirements
