Inzko: Srebrenica Needs Constructive Politics and Economic Development

The High Representative, Valentin Inzko, visited Srebrenica today and met with Acting Mayor Camil Durakovic, Municipal Assembly President Radomir Pavlovic, and other municipal representatives.

The High Representative visited the Petar Petrovic Njegos elementary school and the CIMOS factory, and also met informally with a group of young people from the area to discuss issues affecting them. During this meeting they discussed how to rebuild trust in Srebrenica, completing the return process and putting the area back on the path to sustainable economic development.

“Local leaders have to show responsibility and start making sure that the people of this community can begin to make the most of the area’s capacity for development,” the High Representative said. “The challenge in Srebrenica goes far beyond the elections – people want a better life, and the key to that is constructive politics and economic development.”

The High Representative said that issues arising from the forthcoming municipal election in Srebrenica could be resolved through agreement among the parties in Srebrenica.

At the conclusion of his visit the High Representative laid a wreath at the Potocari Memorial Centre, and met with representatives of the family associations.
