Inzko praises work of international judicial staff in BiH

The presence of international judges, prosecutors, investigators and advisors in the BiH Court and BiH Prosecutor’s Office has played a crucial role in their development. These vital judicial institutions will continue to enjoy the international community’s full support after the mandates of the international members come to an end, High Representative Valentin Inzko said during a meeting with international judicial officials and staff in BiH’s judicial institutions today in Sarajevo.

The High Representative thanked international judges, prosecutors and advisors for their professionalism and dedication to building the rule of law, a better judiciary, and indeed to justice itself in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“You have made an invaluable contribution to both the Court and Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina since their establishment. We are now moving towards the time when your colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina will bear full responsibility”, the High Representative said.

The High Representative recognized that state-level judicial institutions continue to face great challenges and pressures.  Reaffirming the international community’s commitment and support for the State level judicial bodies, Inzko called on the domestic authorities to provide their full support to these institutions and safeguard the progress achieved so far. “It is of utmost importance to ensure the maintenance of an independent, impartial and professional judiciary. This is what the international community and the citizens expect.”
